Safety first

If there is a fire or you suspect one, follow your site fire plan, evacuate and call 999. Don't wait for us or fill in a form first. Never open panels, reset an unexplained alarm or disable protection. From a safe place, an authorised person may read and photograph the closed panel, then contact your competent maintenance provider.

What a visit covers

Servicing that follows BS 5839-1 guidance

BS 5839-1 is a code of practice: public FIA guidance recommends that fire detection and fire alarm systems are inspected and serviced by a competent person with successive visits not more than six months apart, or more often where the site needs it. It gives recommendations rather than creating the legal duty; in England and Wales the Fire Safety Order requires suitable maintenance but does not itself set a six-month deadline. Your fire risk assessment may ask for more frequent visits.

Log book review

We review faults, false alarms and weekly tests recorded since the last visit, then update the log book after our work.

Panel & power

Control equipment, indicators and the standby supply (batteries and charger) are checked, with the extent and limitations recorded; this is not a guarantee of operation during every power failure.

Devices in rotation

Detectors, call points, warning devices and relevant interfaces are inspected and tested to an agreed schedule and the manufacturer's instructions; device coverage and any rotation are confirmed against the applicable recommendations, and defects or immediate risks are reported to the Responsible Person.

Defects & remedials

You get a clear list of defects. Simple fixes can often be agreed on the day; larger remedials are quoted before we proceed.

Contracts & takeovers

Maintenance contracts and taking over existing systems

If another contractor previously looked after your system, we can take it over. We inspect first, list defects honestly, rebuild missing records where we can, and only then agree a servicing plan. See fire alarm servicing takeover for what we need and how the switch works.

Planned maintenance contracts cover the routine visits; remedial works and call-outs for faults are handled as agreed extras so you always know what you are paying for.

Between visits

Weekly user tests and log books

Someone on site should operate a different manual call point each week and write the result in the log book. That simple habit catches many faults early and keeps your records inspection-ready.

At each service visit we review what you have recorded, test devices on rotation, check panel power and batteries, and leave clear notes — including any remedials that need quoting.
